Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte

Good lord, someone get Emily some therapy. What a horrific collection of selfish, nasty, unpleasant people, who do nothing but try to make everyone else as miserable as they are ALL THE TIME. I know I read this in high school, but I remember mostly being bored, not horrified. What if this book is a metaphor about what it would be like to be trapped in Purgatory? Endless time spent with Heathcliff snarling at you and killing your dog and trying to marry you off to all of your available cousins, ye gods.

Reading books like this, I think I'd be better off in a structured high-school-English-class environment, just so someone could tell me why on earth this book is significant.
