Devil's Cub, Georgette Heyer
Looooooooooove. This is the most traditional romance I've read yet by Heyer, with scheming mamas and disapproving counts and family entanglements. I had a little trouble with the hero, since he kept killing people and all, but Mary and his parents were so fantastic that I let it go. There could have been a tiny bit more writing about why they fell in love, but I was perfectly happy that they did, and the ending was exactly the way I used to end my mary sue stories in my head. Noble self sacrifice, and then at the last minute saved by a stern father-figure who turns out to be fabulously understanding!Seriously, I am all aflutter.Grade: A
