The Beekeeper's Apprentice, Laurie R. King

As a kid I never got much into Sherlock Holmes, because either I didn't understand what he was talking about or I found him really boring; what was the point, when he was so uber-fabulous that no one else could even figure out what he was talking about? And then this book adds a whole other couple of layers to that; a brilliant young girl becomes Holmes's assistant and confidant and eventual partner in solving crime (I am still bored; now two people are perfect.) because in the book he's real. But then the author has a weird forward about having found the story instead of writing it, and... it's all too meta for me, I think. It was fun to read, though, but I probably won't bother with the sequels.
