I like a lot of Quinn books, and I specifically like most of the books about the Bridgerton family. This book, however, was hugely disappointing because it was so frustratingly dumb.
It starts off okay: Gregory, the last Bridgerton, goes to a party and falls in love at first sight. Unfortunately, she's kind of boring, and it's her best friend (who is less pretty) who loves Gregory at first sight. Gregory goes after the wrong girl, with the help of the right girl, and eventually, naturally, figures out who he actually loves. Unfortunately, the right girl is engaged to be married.
So far so good. This is where it all takes a turn for the melodramatic; the right girl *can't* marry Gregory because of her evil uncle/guardian. Not for any of the reasons you're considering; apparently he's being blackmailed by someone else because her dead father was a traitor and if she doesn't marry him her brother will lose his title. I don't know. So she blows off Gregory -- after having stupid, stupid sex with him -- and refuses to tell him why. Gregory shows up at the wedding and asks her to marry him instead. She says no. Gregory promptly kidnaps her -- I DON'T KNOW, OKAY? -- and goes off to try and fix things. Did I mention that her perfectly nice fiance is gay? Because we needed a reason to root for Gregory, who is pretty dumb and unlikable. By the time Gregory goes back to untie her she's been dragged off by her uncle/guardian who wants to shoot her? For reasons that are never made clear? And instead ... doesn't? For reasons I didn't understand? Every time I thought it couldn't get more melodramatic and stupid, IT DID.
And then she has ten babies. I am not even kidding.
